6th of 365_2026: Puppies 2.0

Here we go again.

Another surprise pregnancy. Bali gave birth for the second time! Four new puppies - 2 males and 2 females.

January 3rd, after coming back from the groomer, I noticed her belly was a bit huge, and her nipples were prominent again. I had doubts because I never noticed her and Brock getting latched. I scheduled a visit to the vet the following day for an ultrasound to check if Bali was indeed pregnant.

The results - positive. The ultrasound revealed that she was pregnant with 3, possibly 4 puppies and that she was due anytime from the 13th to 17th. So that left me with a few days to prepare a whelping box.

Yesterday, January 5th, I had a dentist appointment so I asked my son to keep an eye out on Bali. Before I left, I took out my huge laundry basin, lined them with old towels and placed it in the corner of the room, "just in case," since I haven't set up the whelping box yet.

I was barely done with my dental appointment when my son called. "Mama! Bali gave birth! What will I do? Can you come home quick?" I hailed a taxi and headed home. Bali was like 10 days early and I was worried the puppies were premature.

When I got home, I got to work immediately. I asked my son to sterilize a pair of scissors, cut a few pieces of string so I can tie the umbilical cord before cutting it. I asked him to get some old towels so we can dry the puppies as they came out.

It took Bali an hour to deliver all 4 puppies. She was exhausted.

Thankfully, the puppies were okay and were able to latch on to their mommy for that precious colostrum.

We are really taking into consideration having Bali spayed or Brock neutered. The cost is not cheap, so we saving up for the procedure. I need Bali to be healthy again. Frequent pregnancies made her lose weight.

Anyway, I am back to square one. New babies to care for. So tiny. So precious. So very much loved.
